This program assists students in finding employment in a childcare setting or an early childhood education setting. It also enables students to get a head start on completing a teacher education degree. It includes three courses and a field experience in an early childhood education setting.
After completing the program, students may apply and obtain an Official Early Childhood Education Teacher Qualification Verification Letter from the Colorado Department of Human Services in order to work as an Early Childhood Education Entry-Level Teacher in Colorado. Students need to do this on their initiative. The university does not complete this task. Students are responsible for paying any expenses associated with securing the verification letter.
This program is for students interested in a career in health care. In the fall, students explore different career options and learn about human growth and development, effects of wellness and illness across the life span, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and administering first aid and CPR. In the spring semester, students begin the Nursing Assistant course and clinical training, which occurs on three consecutive Saturdays (8 hours/day) in April.
Students who complete all components of the program with a passing grade are eligible to pursue on their own initiative a nurse aide license from the Colorado State Board of Nursing. In order to receive the license, students must pass a written examination and a practical skills exam in the lab per Colorado State Board of Nursing (Nurse Aide Practice Act). Students are responsible for paying any fees associated with taking the licensing exam in Montrose. Consult the CMU Montrose Nurse Aide Handbook on the high school programs page of the CMU Montrose website for more information.
