Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Honors courses will no longer receive weighted GPA credit. This change is part of MCSD’s effort to create greater district-wide consistency in how weighted courses are identified and communicated. Honors courses will continue to provide rigorous, advanced preparation for students and will remain an important step in preparing for college-level coursework such as Advanced Placement, Concurrent Enrollment, and other advanced academic pathways. Student transcripts will continue to reflect Honors course titles, allowing colleges, scholarship committees, and other reviewers to see the rigor of a student’s course selections.
This change helps MCSD create a clearer, more consistent district-wide approach to weighted GPA. The purpose of GPA weighting is to recognize verified college-level coursework, such as AP and Concurrent Enrollment, while Honors courses serve as important preparation for those advanced opportunities. Keeping Honors courses unweighted helps preserve the meaning of weighted GPA, reduces GPA inflation, and still allows students’ transcripts to clearly show that they chose rigorous coursework.
